We are so excited to hear the news that Steamboat Springs ranked #3 in the “Best Small Cities” category for Race Raves’ “2020 Best Racing Cities in the U.S.” What an honor to be included on this list with so many other great cities – Big Sur, Missoula, Traverse City, and Moab. AND to make things even cooler, we ranked higher than Jackson Hole! Nothing like a friendly ski town rivalry.
Steamboat Springs is an amazing city to run a race in. We are not just saying that because we are the producers of the Steamboat Marathon. Steamboat may be a small town, but it has huge heart with plenty to do pre and post-race. Whether it is going for a jog on the core trail that winds through downtown and the mountain village, taking a dip in the Strawberry Park Hot Springs, or sipping margaritas on the rooftop deck of Salt n’ Lime, Steamboat truly has something to offer everyone. Steamboat sits at 7000’, so it is relatively low in elevation compared to other mountain towns. This means you can enjoy beautiful mountain scenery (and occasionally snowcapped peaks into July) without having to worry about training at altitude. Additionally, Steamboat is renowned for its friendly and hospitable locals. So if you need help finding your way around town, or just want to “eat where the locals do,” it is easy to get the inside scoop.
